One minute she’s a Puppy Terror, racing around the yard digging up the flowers. The next minute she’s a Puppy Princess, licking your face and cuddling into your lap. But either way, you love her dearly and it’s important to remember, that for every shoe she rips up, there’s a loving kiss waiting around the corner. With these helpful tips, even your puppies most annoying habits can be turned around.
Puppies’ Not-So-Cute Habits:
It’s almost like puppies have a sixth sense about what items are not theirs. And, those items are the ones they want. Forget playing with balls and bones. Puppies want what you have. Expensive Stiletto shoes they discovered on the shoe rack, lacy lingerie in the laundry bin, a diet soda you’ve been drinking. In puppies’ eyes, what’s yours is automatically theirs. Try giving them old socks or old slippers to play with and hide those brand new shoes!
Barking Like They Own The World
When puppies first learn how to bark, it’s like they’ve uncovered a secret right. And they want to exercise this right whenever they possibly can. Anytime someone walks by, they want to demonstrate this new found ability, especially when it happens to be another dog!
When their barking becomes too much, use enforcing words to tell them know that barking is not acceptable.
At first it can be cute; every time you leave the room, your puppy lets out a little cry, almost like a cry for love. Your puppy is begging, “Don’t leave me, I’ll miss you.” However, at 4:00 in the morning, this little cry isn’t so cute anymore. In fact, it sounds more like what it really is- an annoying whine for attention.
Try to ignore their whines and eventually they will learn that whining brings them nothing.
Biting Every Part of You
By far the most annoying thing about a new little puppy is their need to bite everything, especially your fingers and toes. Give them a bone; they still want your hand. In fact, it seems like the more toys you toss at them, the more they want to bite your limbs right off.
Try smearing their toys with honey or peanut butter. This will make their toys seems more appetizing and hopefully lessen their desire to bite your fingers.
Not Picking up After Themselves
How often do you come home from work and see your yard completely littered with puppy toys? It’s almost like your puppy has spent the entire day placing her toys around the lawn just so you have to pick them up.
Try teaching your puppy the game of fetch. At least then the toys will come back to you and not all around the yard.
But even with all the biting, scratching, chewing and whining, they still are the most adorable little things. And before you know it, they grow up, and all of a sudden, it’s a lawn littered with toys or a closest full of half-eaten shoes, that you miss.
Cutest Puppy Habits:
Puppies have an amazing ability to just fall asleep, no matter where or what position. This can create some pretty adorable photo-op moments.
Play-Fighting and Games
One of the greatest things about puppies is their endless bounds of energy. They are willing to play, play, play all day as long as someone is there with them. And any game is fun for them, as long as it involves you.
Letting a puppy run wild is one of the funniest things to watch. They have a way of making the most normal items seem completely incredible. From leaves on the ground to rocks in the garden, these are like jewels to puppies.
The After Bath Furry Fuzzy Cuddle
Everyone loves that warm, fresh-out-of-the-bath feeling. And when puppies get out of the bath and have had a chance to dry off, they are no exception. Their bodies are warm and fragrant, their fur is soft and furry and their cuddles feel twice as nice.
Their Complete and Utter Adoration for You
They follow you around; they stare up at you with loving eyes; and they want to be with you all the time. In fact, in their eyes, you are the most important person in the world. If that’s not puppy love, then what is?
And, after all, they may be a handful for a couple of months, but they’ll remain your best friend for the rest of their lives.
